The use of Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC®) has completely transformed dental procedures. In the past, restoring damaged teeth with crowns, onlays, inlays, or dental veneers would require multiple procedures and long waiting periods. However, with CEREC®, these ceramic restorations can now be created within minutes right in the dental office. As a result, many treatments can be completed in just one visit.
CEREC® consists of various computer-assisted design (CAD) tools and a milling machine that produces personalized ceramic restorative devices. Almost anyone requiring a ceramic restoration can benefit from CEREC®, particularly nervous patients, as it can also lower treatment expenses.

The CEREC® System is made up of what?

The CEREC® System, also known as a CAD-CAM system, stands for Computer Assisted Design and Computer Assisted Milling. It comprises three main components.

Acquisition device: The acquisition device is equipped with a high-quality camera and a medical grade computer. Its main purpose is to capture images of the prepared tooth. These images are then displayed on the screen, allowing the dentist to design an ideal ceramic restoration based on the three-dimensional representation of the tooth.

Three-dimensional CAD software: This software provides dentists with the ability to view and analyze teeth from various perspectives. It offers a realistic experience similar to physically holding and rotating the tooth.

Milling device: This unit is responsible for manufacturing the custom restoration based on the specifications entered into the computer. It selects a ceramic block that closely matches the color of the existing tooth and inserts it into the device. In just a matter of minutes, the milling device creates the restoration as designed by the dentist.
